Jake Gyllenhaal Proves His Hollywood Credentials [30 Apr 2006|10:24am]
GYLLENHAAL OFFENDS GULF WAR VETERANS

Movie star JAKE GYLLENHAAL has shocked American Gulf War veterans by joking they did nothing but "masturbate" during their time in the desert in 1991. The cheeky 25-year-old stars in JARHEAD, a movie exposing the US soldiers' lack of combat in the Middle Eastern conflict. He said, "The US soldiers were sent to the desert for 122 days and they sat in the same tent and did nothing, except a little too much masturbating."

What's your fave movie of Jake's?

Simply starring in a movie based on a book by an anti-military veteran obviously prepared you well to comment on the sacrifices of the men and women who keep you and your ilk safe to masturbate on our screens.

You owe a sincere apology to both military veterans and current servicemembers for your gross lack of gratitude for their service which makes them better human beings than you will ever be...

What movie are you looking forward to?

The aforementioned apology...

Loony lefties find a way to "back" President Bush [16 Dec 2004|01:03pm]
From the Yahoo!Group messageboard for my local freethinker, read atheist, group:

>> Think I'll just have to back Bush this time.
>>
>> http://www.turnyourbackonbush.org/
>
> Boy, folks do find interesting ways to respond to situations.
> It'd be cool to see even 20% of the crowd doing this.
>
> I might even take the day off to watch.

Participating in a fair, legal, democratic election is the most important "part of democracy."

Accepting the results of a fair, legal, democratic election is an equally important "part of democracy."

Inauguration Day is a singularly important civic celebration in which "We the People" set aside our partisanship to acknowledge the legitimacy of our duly elected leader which makes it a very important "part of democracy."

While dissent is an essential component of all free institutions, disrupting a very important democratic celebration is no "part of democracy."

"Turn your back on Bush." Oh my, how terribly clever! All hail America's ignorant children!

One of the best, sweetest things about President Bush's re-election is watching the political opposition go collectively insane.

The Compleat Heretic's Political Prognostications [31 Oct 2004|02:26pm]

Bush/Cheney'04 banner with President George Walker Bush addressing the troops

The Compleat Heretic, as an honorably discharged Army sergeant,
a proud and patriotic American, and a rational human being,
enthusiastically supports the re-election of President George W. Bush!

[This was originally a P.S. to a post on my local (Greensboro, NC) freethinker (read atheist) group's discussion board. Surprisingly, within the group, I'm in the political minority to the extreme. I'm posting it here to create some activity in this thing. Also, I want to go on record to demonstrate either my political acumen or my abject idiocy!]

Based on an ongoing, albeit amateur, analysis, The Compleat Heretic predicts Tuesday's election:

BUSH LANDSLIDE!!!

Bush wins reelection with at least 50% of the popular vote which will make him the first president to be elected with a majority since his father did so in 1988. Bush defeats Kerry by at least 2 points, and perhaps as many as 4 or 5. Bush wins over 300 electoral votes; Kerry wins less than 220 and may not break 200.

GOP picks up at least 2 seats in the Senate (Richard Burr!!!) and a handful in the House (if only in Texas; redistricting is a bitch when you can't control it, but then again, the NC Democrats managed to muff it for their party.).

And finally, lest you think I'm totally bonkers, Easley easily defeats Ballantine (Hmm, incumbent governor vs. unknown legislator...). Vinroot, former Charlotte mayor and my primary vote, would have made a more impressive showing. Candidates with executive experience are far more successful in winning election to executive offices than those with legislative experience. HMMM...

Hmm, better late than never... [30 Mar 2003|02:45pm]
I reckon this sentiment could apply to both my week-long delay in posting this entry (I plead celebrating my birthday!) and the eye-descaling detailed below:

From a 22 March 2003 Drudge Report link titled "Peaceniks in Iraq 'Shocked back to reality'..." (http://www.upi.com/view.cfm?StoryID=20030321-023627-5923r):

Lucky Break for Jordan (excerpt)

By Arnaud de Borchgrave
UPI Editor at Large

AMMAN, Jordan, March 21 (UPI) -- An unintended coalition of U.S. air power and Baghdad taxi drivers kept a potential flood of Iraqi refugees away from the Jordanian border Friday. The U.N. refugee agency and the Jordanian government were expecting a quarter of million people to stream across the border. Jordan is already home for 400,000 Iraqi refugees from the first Gulf War.

...

A group of American anti-war demonstrators who came to Iraq with Japanese human shield volunteers made it across the border today with 14 hours of uncensored video, all shot without Iraqi government minders present. Kenneth Joseph, a young American pastor with the Assyrian Church of the East, told UPI the trip "had shocked me back to reality." Some of the Iraqis he interviewed on camera "told me they would commit suicide if American bombing didn't start. They were willing to see their homes demolished to gain their freedom from Saddam's bloody tyranny. They convinced me that Saddam was a monster the likes of which the world had not seen since Stalin and Hitler. He and his sons are sick sadists. Their tales of slow torture and killing made me ill, such as people put in a huge shredder for plastic products, feet first so they could hear their screams as bodies got chewed up from foot to head."

Even better is an op-ed by Daniel Pepper, "a 23-year-old Jewish-American photographer living in Islington, north London," published 23 March 2003 in the UK's Daily Telegraph:

"I was a naive fool to be a human shield for Saddam"

I'm gratified to see that at least two (former) "peacemongers" are honest enough to admit that they were wrong.

A noble, yet no doubt futile, gesture [05 Mar 2003|12:13pm]
An e-mail sent to my senior Senator John Edwards on 5 March 2003:

Dear Senator Edwards,

I am extremely disturbed by the Democratic Party's unfair treatment of Miguel Estrada.

Estrada graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia; he received his juris doctor degree magna cum laude from Harvard Law School and was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.

Estrada was rated "Outstanding" in his job performance every year during his tenure in the Solicitor General's office during the Clinton administration.

Estrada has received the American Bar Association's highest rating of "Well Qualified."

Miguel Estrada is obviously an extraordinary individual and no doubt would be an exceptional jurist. At the very least, he is entitled to the courtesy of a Senate vote on his nomination.

On Thursday, when the Republican majority calls for cloture to end the unprecedented Democratic filibuster of a judicial nomination, I trust you'll act fairly, justly, and honestly and vote to end debate and move to the up-or-down vote on Estrada's nomination.

Sincerely,
James Matthew (Matt) Wallace

Given the blindly partisan nature of Senator Edwards, I know this e-mail may as well have gone unsent, but I had to make the effort if only to maintain a healthy respect for myself.

Gratuitous French Bashing [24 Feb 2003|12:04pm]
I was mucking about on LJ this weekend when I came upon the anti_lefty community LJ where I found an entry which excerpted a Microsoft® Encarta® article on the "Vietnam War." I was so amused by the penultimate sentence that I couldn't resist:

"The Battle of Dien Bien Phu resulted in perhaps the most humiliating defeat in French military history." [emphasis mine]

Hmm, "perhaps" indeed, I can see how one would have difficulty ranking "humiliating defeat[s] in French military history."

-- Matt Wallace, who once gleefully, read "drunk on a liter bottle of wretched champagne which explains how he got the bottle to himself," and in a no doubt most appropriate manner which unfortunately has been lost to intoxication and time, insulted the French while urinating part of the aforementioned bottle of wretched champagne in the latrine of the Moulin Rouge in gay Pair-ee

As an aside, before any of you leftist smart asses try to point out the "fact" that we Americans lost in Vietnam too, the US never lost a major battle with the communists, much less suffered a "Dien Bien Phu." On the contrary, we killed upwards of a million of the commie bastards in combat. We forced them to the negotiating table with the Christmas 1972 bombing campaign where they agreed to a peace treaty which they ultimately violated like all "good" communists. The wretched, bloody history of Communism in the Twentieth Century readily reveals treaties negotiated in bad faith to be simply weapons in the "people's revolutionary struggle." Thank my lack of god that America and visionary Americans were there to oppose such evil and ultimately to cast it upon the trash heap of history with all the other failed attempts to destroy human freedom and dignity.
